1884 Military Map of Western Texas – (crop) Note TARLINGA PEAK is listed at what we know today as Hen Egg Mountain and Gomez Mesa is shown where Nine Point Mesa is called today. Also, Chopwind is shown where the area was later called “Whirlwind” (the late Evelyn Fulcher grew up with the later name in the early part of last century). “Chopwind” is located North of Terlingua about 50 miles on Hwy 118 near Elephant Mountain where whirlwinds are often performing.
